Deborah Rehmat

Deborah trained at Canterbury College of Art where she studied Graphic Design, and then at Goldsmiths’ College from where she has a BA (hons) degree in fine art textiles. After graduating in 1978 she continued her art practice producing divergent work in the fields of painting, printmaking, decorative art and textiles.

In the early 1980’s she set up her studio in Lots Road, Chelsea, supplying Liberty’s as well as selling from the Apple Market, Covent Garden, then London’s flagship venue for top quality designer-makers.

In the mid 80’s she teamed up with her husband Farooq Rehmat, also a painter and designer, and over the next ten years they exhibited and sold together from their own studio gallery in the Portobello Road, London.

Deborah continues to work as both a painter and textile artist, and has developed a range of jewellery which combines many of the techniques she has used throughout her career.

Debrorah says: “I use a wide range of materials including sterling silver, hand dyed paper, fabric, thread, wood and fibre board. The process of making involves many stages and as each piece is made individually, no two are ever the same.”
